A class-action lawsuit has been filed against Royal Farms alleging the company of violating the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) by wrongfully classifying employees as exempt from overtime. As a result, they failed to pay overtime compensation to the employees who participated in the\u00a0Store Leaders in Training program. Royal Farms has agreed to settle the class-action lawsuit for avoiding the uncertainty and expense of ongoing litigation although it has denied any wrongdoing. Royal Farms comprise a chain of more than 200 convenience stores in Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia. Royal Farms has agreed to pay a maximum of $995000 based upon the number of weeks the collective members participated as salaried and exempt-classified personnel in the Store Leader in Training program during the Collective Period, up to a maximum of twelve weeks. The settlement payment estimate mentioned in the settlement<\/a> notice is the amount that each class member can expect to receive. Half of the gross award will be considered back wages and taxed ordinarily while the other half won’t be subjected to ordinary deductions.<\/p>\n

Collective members need to provide their Claimant ID Number printed on the collective action settlement notice sent to them for submitting an online claim. If any collective member didn\u2019t receive the Royal Farms settlement notice, then they can contact the settlement administrator. A settlement cheque will be mailed to the claimants and they will have 120 days from the date when it was mailed to encash or deposit the cheque.
